There are a handful of Persian restaurants in roughly my area. I was thinking of trying out such food and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Basmati rice, lamb, lentils, and kabob seem to be pretty common.

The spice from a flower known as saffron has some Persian history and most of the world's production is grown in Iran. Those sometimes expensive spice bottles you see in stores with the tiny bit of red stuff in them is saffron.
